Bring the food

Stop wasting food thanks to Bring The Food!

The project is developed by Bruno Kessler Foundation (FBK) in Trento. It is a web/mobile application that allows occasional or regular donors to publish their offers and monitor them.

The project has so far been financed directly with a budget from the research unit of ICT for Good within the normal institutional activities, but the team of developers are looking for funding to be dedicated directly to the development and sustainability of the application.

Modern societies often exist with contradictions; on the one hand driven consumerism, which often leads to throwing food which is still good to eat and on the other hand a growing number of people who are turning to the organizations in order to have enough to eat. This paradox can partly be solved by finding a meeting place between those who have too much and those who have nothing.

Bring The Food is an organization that retrieves food, that is not used but is still in excellent condition, from restaurants and canteens, for distribution to the most needy.

Senza titolo-1

FBK has in fact created a system that allows managers of restaurants, catering services and supermarkets to report any excess of food, to make available for various humanitarian organizations; who has the surplus is required to specify the available quantity (number of servings) and the expiry date of the food; who collects and redistributes the food has the possibility to see the offers available in his area on a map, book them and arrange for a pickup, directly with the donor.

Adolfo Villafiorita, head of ICT for good, emphasizes that the application is ripe and ready to be field-tested, obseving particular appeal among research groups from Germany, Israel, Canada and the United States.
